U.S. 331 Improvement Project,
FDOT District Three

Walton County, Fla.

The $13 million transportation improvement project consisted of widening a 2.4 mile section of a highly traveled tourism and hurricane evacuation corridor in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. U.S. 331 was expanded to four lanes between the U.S. 98 intersection and the south end of the Clyde B. Wells Bridge across Choctawhatchee Bay. Safety and drainage improvements, new sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and a new traffic signal were also included in the project.

The construction effort was paired with an aggressive public information program administered by ABC Group. The firm developed and maintained a project website; coordinated media relations in support of the FDOT District Three public information office; created and distributed e-newsletters, fact sheets and brochures; performed door-to-door canvasses of adjacent properties to personally meet stakeholders; and developed a special outreach plan targeted to the resort industry.
